7:02 pm - Things I would do with $$$
|
These are some of the events/places I would book in an instant if I won the lotto:
The Amazing Meeting! A skeptics meeting in Las Vegas. I've always been disturbed by the large amount of psudo-science and falsehoods that are all over the net, and the news. But until recently, I didn't know about the large community of people fighting such misinformation. I just want to learn more about it, and this looks like an interesting place to learn. Plus, it's in Las Vegas, a place I want to visit, anyways.
San Diego Comic Con THE SciFi/Comic/Science/Everything Con. I've wanted to go for the past three years, but life never worked out for it. Apparently it is absolutely sold out this year, so even if I did suddenly get lots of money, I couldn't go this year either.
Dragon*Con Another everything con that I've wanted to go to for years, it just happens at an inconvenient time of the year, so I've never made it.
A small cruise A few years ago, there were plans to take a small cruise from Florida, but it changed into the simple road trip to Florida instead. It was great, but I still want to take a cruise somewhere. And I wast to see Australia and New Zealand, so this covers everything in one, comprehensive sweep. And the stop in Hawaii is an extra bonus.
These are just the trips I've been looking at recently. Basically, if I ever get a large sum of money, I'd be traveling as much as I possibly could, there is so much world out there, I want to see as much as I can. But right now, that's never going to happen, so all I can do is dream.

7:44 pm - Selling Stuff
|
I've been out of work since December, and while I had some money saved, it's basically all gone. So I'm trying to sell a bunch of my stuff because I'm flat broke. Please check it out, and, if you can, buy something. It's mostly CD's right now, but there's also coins, and other stuff, and I'll be adding more tomorrow.
I've also made some items at Zazzle.com, a print on demand site, using some of my photos from Tibet. Please take a look, and show anyone else you know who might be interested.
Even if you don't want anything, thanks for looking.

It is nauseating how disgustingly similar cleaning up a broken jar of salsa is like cleaning up a pile of puke. Ugh... so much for taco salad for dinner tonight.

9:25 pm - Abusing FF3
|
Firefox 3 has this nice feature that saves my open tabs, and then reopens them whenever I restart it... I currently have 57 tabs open... most of them are new webcomics I find links for that I want to check out later. It works much better then bookmarks for keeping my place when reading through archives. Usually when I bookmark something, I never go back to it. Tabs keep them readily available. I also have lots of wikipedia and gamefaq pages open, as well as link pages. Very handy feature.

11:26 pm - Blackadder meme

From the_infamous_j, cause I'm bored:
When you see this, quote Blackadder in your LJ.
"Oh, I'm sorry, sir. I'm anispeptic, frasmotic, even compunctuous to have caused you such pericombobulation."

7:05 pm - Canada's Wonderland and Spamalot in one weekend
|
Saturday I went to Wonderland with my roommate, his girlfriend, and another friend. They dragged me onto Behemoth, and all the other coasters, because last time, I had my broken hand, so had a nice excuse not to. No such luck this time. I've come to think that waiting in line is more terrifying to me then the actual ride. I think I actually like roller coasters, for the most part. Not all of them, though, I really don't like the wooden ones, I like G-forces, not being battered around by vibrations. I went on Behemoth three times, including once at night during the Halloween Haunt. This was the first time I've been to the Halloween thing. It's basically just a bunch of haunted houses with different themes set up around the park, you walk through, and actors jump out and try and scare people. It was okay, not especially scary; it was more amusing seeing girls shriek at everything then anything else.
We got stuck on Psyclone for about 15 minutes just before the park closed in the afternoon. After the ride finished, the platform under the ride stopped just as they started to raise it to let everyone off. After waiting for the tech to get there, he took one look at the control panel, pointed to my friend, and asked him to push down on his harness. Apparently, when he pulled his arm out to undo the seatbelt at the end of the ride, he pushed up on the harness too hard, and caused it to stop everything. At least we weren't stuck hanging up side down or something.
Got home from that around 1:00 in the morning, to go to bed, to get up early to go to Toronto to see Monty Pythons Spamalot. It was a group of seven of us, but I didn't have a seat with everyone else, since Wonderland was originally going to be on Sunday, I couldn't go, but it got switched, so I ordered my ticket after everyone else. But I think I had a better seat; we were all on the far left, but I was further back, so my view was less oblique.
Very funny show; I loved it. It's based on The Quest for the Holy Grail movie, with some differences (have to get the dancing girls in somehow) and a few things missing (no "...I got better" scene), but still very Monty Python. It was the second last performance of the run, so everything went smoothly (as far as I saw, anyway) and the acting and singing was excellent. I enjoy live theater, and really need to get to more. Need more people to go with.
Well, that was my busy weekend, it took me all week to recover from it.

11:44 pm - New webcomic
|
I found this cute new webcomic:

It's a simple slice-of-life about a neighborhood of housepets, but it's quite funny at times, and the art is very well done. It started in June, so there is just a small archive, but it looks like he has been very consistent keeping his update schedule. Check it out.

11:56 pm - My continuing quest to play GH I&II on PS3...
|
I've been trying to get GH I and II to play decently on the PS3 so I can have everything running on the one console. The best I've gotten so far is using a PS2 to USB dongle from RadioShack, but it takes a bit of fiddling to get it to work right, and the up/down of the strum bar is backwards, and no whammy bar at all. So today I stopped in at BestBuy and got a new Guitar for PS2 and PS3 that worked with I, II, and III(and Rock Band, so when I pick that up, it will be useful.) So I figured that it should be able to all the games on the PS3... nope v_v doesn't do anything with GH I or II... crap. But it does work for GH3, so now I have two guitars for that, and it works on the PS2, so I have two guitars for that as well, just still need both systems.

9:04 pm - Potluck...
|
So much good food, no need for dinner. The salad was very well received, I got numerous complements, and a couple of people want the "recipe," which is funny, because it's basically "ingredients, chop, mix, serve." It was all eaten so they must have liked it.

I'm getting different update pages between IE and FF? And the FF one doesn't work at all. This is annoying.

It's another potluck lunch at work again. Usually I just buy something, but this time I decided to try making a salad (no cooking involved, so it's should be easy). This is the end result:

It's a Waldorf Coleslaw, with cabbage, apple, celery, walnuts, raisins, and mayonnaise. It's just chopping and mixing, and half the stuff doesn't even need chopping. I made it once before for friends, and it was good, so I'll see what work thinks of it.

9:06 pm - Weird evening sky...
|
It was a weird mix of clear, slightly cloudy, and threatening all at the same time, and the sun was setting, so it gave it an unusual lighting effect as well. I tried to get a shot from the balcony, but there are a lot of building in the way, and I don't know how to take good sky shots.

Also, LJ wasn't letting me post from Firefox, I had to use IE, I feel so dirty right now...

Red pandas from Chengdu Giant Panda Research Center ( More photos and video behind cut... )
I took these photos on the first day in China, they are really cute, but shy, I couldn't get any shot of their faces. I should have gotten a plushie they were selling around, but I didn't think about it until after we left.
